Describe and demonstrate how to use a Hoyer Lift

The Hoyer Lift allows you to easily move a client to/from the bed to a wheelchair, commode, toilet, floor, or chair.

It is not your job to choose an appropriate sling; however, you need to be knowledgeable about how to choose. There are several different kinds of slings that come in different sizes. One supports the head and extends to the top of the head. Another only extends to the shoulders and the client supports their own head. The type of sling also depends on its purpose. If the client will be placed in water, such as a bathtub, spa, or pool, you will want to use a mesh sling, which will dry quickly. If you will use the sling to transfer the client to the toilet or commode, you will want to use a sling with a hole for defecation or one that is open.
