  • In previous chapters, we discussed the properties of functions and how to operate with polynomials. In this chapter, we combine ideas from these previous chapters by covering polynomial functions. We'll initially focus on quadratic functions.

    Quadratic and higher-degree polynomial functions model the motion of airplanes and rockets, and  of sports in which balls travel through the air. They model the shape of bridges and roller coasters, the flow of fluid in a container, and the factors in a successful business, to name a few. Polynomial functions play a role in our daily lives, and we'll discuss these in this chapter.
