In this lesson, you'll use a different image, "03_Bird-of-Paradise." Before continuing, click on the Resources tab and download the image.

One of the elements of good photo/image composition is to fill the frame with the subject. This makes the subject the most important thing in the image. While you can do this when shooting the original image, you can also do it during editing by cropping. Cropping is cutting out a portion of the image you don’t want.

Click the
Crop
tool to select it.

Move the
Crop
tool over the image.

Click and drag around the flowers to define the area to keep.

A rule of thirds grid appears when dragging the
Crop
tool to help you find the best position for the flowers. Use the grid's handles (blue squares at the corners of the grid) to resize the grid as needed.

Click anywhere outside the grid, and the confirm changes dialog box appears. Click the Yes button to apply the crop.

Save and share the cropped image with your teacher, and be prepared to discuss how it shows what you’ve learned.
