    Whether you work for an agency or work independently, you will need to be licensed to work in California. Above is pictured the Glendora Office of Visiting Angels. Agencies can help you register for your license; however, it is best to start the process now. You will need to submit an Application, Livescan, and Criminal Record Statement. The Application is currently $35.00. The cost of a Livescan varies by location.

    “Currently, California requires certification of home health aides, and background checks are required for In-Home Supportive Services workers.  California requires the licensure of its home health agencies.  However, providers of non-skilled home care services are not as regulated.  In California, there are currently no licensing requirements for agencies or individuals providing home care aide (HCA) services, i.e. those that provide care not related to health, such as cooking, homemaking, or shopping.”  (
