    As a home care aide, you will not be the one making the decision to move to a long-term care facility; however, the family may ask for your opinion since you may spend more time with the client.

    One of the advantages of caring for the client at home is that they are in a familiar setting. As we get older, change is difficult. Another advantage is that they are near their family and benefit from social interaction. Family members may feel guilty about moving the client to a facility and staying in the home relieves that guilt.

    Moving the client to a long-term care facility also has some benefits. A residential facility provides 24-hour supervision and nursing care, recreational activities, socialization, and most importantly relieves the stress on the family.

    Whether the client remains in the home or moves to a long-term care facility, the cost may be a factor. Safety is another factor to consider and the client may need more services, care, and supervision than what is provided in the home. These are some of the things the family will need to consider.
