In most cities, it is common for the streets to be laid out in a grid format like the example below. Do any of the streets intersect at right angles? In this section, we consider pairs of lines with that property .
Perpendicular Lines

Notice that the two lines below have slopes that are different signs—the blue line has a positive slope and the red line has a negative slope . This is one aspect of the relationship between slopes of perpendicular lines .
