The forms  you will be looking at in this section are mapping diagrams, tables, graphs, and equations. Each form has pros and cons which you will explore throughout this section. It is important for professionals in any field to understand how the display of a graph affects the viewers' ability to understand it. The ability to communicate an idea is an important skill in today’s professional world.

    Here is a general overview of the situations in which each of the representations for displaying a function is most effective :

    • Mapping Diagrams are best for discrete functions with a domain and range with less than ten elements. Mapping diagrams are commonly used in computer programming to display the behavior of a function as defined by the programmer.

    • Tables are best for displaying discrete functions with unrelated input values. Tables are often used to display functions with domains that have greater than 10 elements.

    • Graphs are best for displaying discrete or continuous functions related inputs. This form makes it easy to identify and analyze trends.
