    You shall eat pies and puddings,

    Jenny consented; the day was named,

    The Linnet and the Goldfinch too,

    And Robin, by a wicked Sparrow,

    The Birds of the air fell to sighing and sobbing,

    THE CRUEL SPARROW.

    This cruel Sparrow
    Kill'd Cock Robin with bow & arrow.::这只残忍的麻雀用弓箭杀死了知更鸟。

    THE LITTLE FLY.

    This little Fly
    Saw poor Cock Robin die.::这只小苍蝇看到可怜的知更鸟死了。

    THE FISH WITH HIS DISH.

    This little Fish
    Caught his blood in the dish.::这条小鱼把他的血放在盘子里。

    THE UNDERTAKER.

    His shroud, by the Beetle,
    Was made with thread-and-needle.::甲虫说，他的裹尸布是用针线做成的。

    THE SEXTON.

    This Owl so brave
    Dug poor Cock Robin's grave.::这只猫头鹰如此勇敢地挖开了可怜的知更鸟的坟墓。

    THE BEARER.

    His coffin, at night,
    Was borne by the Kite.::他的棺材，在夜里，由风筝抬着。

    THE PARSON.

    I, said the Rook,

    THE CLERK.

    Amen, said the Lark,

    THE LINK-BEARER.

    To light them, the Linnet

    THE PALL-BEARERS.

    These Wrens so small,

    THE CHIEF-MOURNER.

    Says the innocent Dove,
    I will mourn for my Love.::天真的鸽子说，我要为我的爱人哀悼。

    THE BELL-TOLLER.

    The Bull tolled the Bell,
    For poor Cock Robin's funeral knell.::公牛敲钟，为可怜的知更鸟丧钟。
    All the birds in the air
    Fell to sighing and sobbing,
    When they heard the bell toll
    For poor Cock Robin: ::当听到丧钟为可怜的知更鸟敲响时，空中所有的鸟儿都在叹息和抽泣：
    And vow'd that the Sparrow,
    Who his life took away,
    Should be tried for the murder
