    Practice 1 : Review Sentences: Copy these sentences and correct them.   These sentences have errors in capitalization, punctuation, and usage.  Also, locate and label the part of speech for each word in the sentences.

    Fragments and Run-On Sentences
    ::零散和运行中判决

    A sentence fragment is a piece of a sentence that is lacking a subject, verb, or both.  It is a piece of a sentence, and it does not make sense on its own.  It is not a complete thought.
    ::句子的片断是一个句子的一部分,它缺乏一个主题,动词,或者两者兼而有之。它是一个句子的片段,它本身没有意义。它不是一个完整的想法。

     

     

    Examples of fragments:  * The girl who loves to dance

    Practice 2 :  Add to the fragments to create a complete thought.

    Run-On Sentence:   A run-on sentence is a sentence where there are two or more independent clauses that are joined without the proper punctuation and/or conjunction.
    ::执行判决:执行判决是指有两个或两个以上独立条款合并而没有适当标出和(或)连接的判刑。

    Examples of Run-On Sentences:
    ::运行中的句子实例 :

    *The dog is hungry so he will eat his food.
    ::*狗饿了,所以他会吃自己的食物。

    Correct:  The dog is hungry, so he will eat his food.
    ::正确:狗饿了,所以他吃自己的食物。

    *The doctor gave her a shot but she did not get better.
    ::*医生给她打了一针,但她没有好起来。

    Correct:  The doctor gave her a shot, but she did not get better.
    ::正确:医生给了她一针,但她没有好起来。

     

     

    • Use a comma before the coordinating conjunction when joining independent clauses.
      ::在加入独立条款时,在协调组合之前使用逗号。
    • Coordinating Conjunctions :  and, but, or, nor, so, yet, for
      ::协调会合:
    • You can also join independent clauses that are strongly connected in content with a semi colon.
      ::您也可以加入与分号内容紧密相连的独立条款。
    •  Example:  She drove to the store; he walked.
      ::例如:她开车去商店;他走路。

    Practice 4 :  Correct the run-on sentences.
    ::做法4:纠正 " 候审判决 " 。

    1.  The coaches yelled at the players but they didn't hear him.

    2.  Today I'm tired so I will get some rest tonight.
    ::2. 今天我累了,所以我今晚要休息。

    3.  I studied for the test yet I made a bad grade on it.

    4.  I like to eat fruits and vegetables but I don't like them cooked.

    5.  I have respect for my teachers and they have respect for me too.

    6.  The students in my class are fun to be around and they come over to my house on the weekends.

    Practice 5 :  Read the following run-on sentences and rewrite them correctly on the lines provided.  After correcting the sentences, bracket and label the clause(s) for each item.

    1. My mother went shopping with her friends but they separated from each other when they got to the mall.

      Practice 7 :   Analyze the word group and determine if it is a run-on sentence or a fragment.  Write RO in the blank for Run-On and SF in the blank for Sentence Fragment.  Next, rewrite the sentence correctly on the lines provided.
