    In Chapter 5, you learned about editing images with layers. Here, you’ll learn two more powerful ways to use layers: 1) layer masks to hide and show parts of the same layer, and 2) combining multiple images as layers into one image. Layer masks are like Harry Potter's cloak of invisibility - apply it to a layer and the layer disappears. With one image, you'll edit a duplicate layer, apply a mask and then remove the mask only from the areas you want to show. For the second image, you'll use what you learned with the first image to create an effect called selective desaturation. The third image(s) will teach you how to combine and distort one image into another using layers.
