    The minimum wage is the lowest hourly wage that employers can legally pay workers. The minimum wage is always a topic of debate, especially in politics.

    In 1912, Massachusetts passed the first law protecting the wages of women and children in factories, stating that wages had to reasonably accommodate the cost of living. In 1938, President Franklin Roosevelt passed the Fair Labor Standards Act, creating the first national minimum wage of $0.25 per hour. 1
