    Google Books has catalogued over 5 million books over the years to make them searchable in their Ngram Viewer 1 . With the viewer, you can search for phrases and see how often they occurred over time. An Ngram comparing Frankenstein, Sherlock Holmes, and Jane Eyre is shown below.
